Red Planet Registry makes personalized digital Mars gifts. Each order registers a commemorative, fictional plot on a real coordinate on Mars and delivers a set of documents typeset with the recipient's name, in 3 packages from $9.99 to $29.99.

The site is operated by Neue School Creative LLC, an independent company based in Los Angeles, California. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by NASA, JPL, USGS or any space agency or government.

How a plot is assigned

Plots come from a deterministic lattice that covers the whole planet, so each registry number maps to a distinct coordinate and no two gifts share one. Coordinates use planetocentric latitude and east longitude, and each plot is named by one of the 30 quadrangles of the USGS Mars chart series. You see the exact plot, coordinates and map before you pay.

Where the imagery comes from

Maps and globes are drawn from the public-domain NASA/JPL/USGS Viking MDIM 2.1 global mosaic, credited on every document. Landscape photographs used in our marketing are digitally generated and labeled as such.

How the documents are made

Every file is generated for the order: PDFs with embedded fonts and vector text, so names stay sharp at any print size, plus PNG wallpapers in the Ultimate Mission. Certificates come in 3 design collections, and the Ultimate Mission adds a 7-page mission dossier. Files are delivered by email and on the order page, usually within minutes of payment. Nothing is printed or shipped.

What it is, and isn't

Red Planet Registry is a novelty gift. Under the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, no one can legally own or sell land on Mars, so a registration is a keepsake, not a deed, and conveys no ownership or property rights.
